Export TIM locomotives into JMRI

Train Inventory Manager 3.3.4 or later exports a JMRI-compatible complete-roster package.

Prepare the TIM records #

  • Mark each locomotive as currently owned.
  • Record its road name, road number, manufacturer, model, and DCC address where known.
  • Record the JMRI roster ID and decoder family and model for the closest round trip. When no JMRI roster ID is present, TIM uses its inventory number.

Export from TIM #

  1. Open the inventory.
  2. Choose Import & Export.
  3. Find JMRI and RailModeller Pro interoperability.
  4. Under JMRI locomotive roster, select Download JMRI complete roster.
  5. Save the `.roster` package.

Import into JMRI #

  1. Back up the existing JMRI roster.
  2. Open JMRI.
  3. Choose Import Complete Roster.
  4. Select the `.roster` package downloaded from TIM.
  5. Review JMRI's duplicate and decoder prompts before accepting the entries.

The package contains JMRI roster-entry XML files plus a roster index. It transfers collection and identity data stored by TIM. It does not recreate decoder CV values, speed tables, or programming details that TIM never stored.
