Wishlist, Product Catalog, and Inventory serve different purposes.
Wishlist #
Wishlist contains products you may buy. Record desired quantity, expected price or value, preferred source, and planning notes. Planned and ordered records remain outside owned collection counts.
When an item is acquired, edit the wishlist record and change it to an owned lifecycle status. Add the purchase, condition, storage, and private documentation then review the result instead of creating an unnecessary duplicate.
Product Catalog #
Product Catalog contains reusable manufacturer and product facts shared across My-Trains, including product name, manufacturer, model number, barcode, scale, gauge, railroad, decoder compatibility, and governed source evidence.
Purchase price, ownership, condition, storage, DCC address, private photographs, receipts, and maintenance do not belong in Product Catalog. They remain on the Inventory or Wishlist record inside the selected Personal or Club inventory.
Use a catalog product #
- Open Product Catalog under Collection.
- Search Products by name, manufacturer, model number, barcode, railroad, scale, or another identifier.
- Open the best result and review its verification state and sources.
- Choose Add to Inventory or Add to Wishlist.
- Review every proposed field, add the selected inventory's private details, and save.
Contribute missing information #
Open My Contributions to submit a missing product, manufacturer, source, bounded catalog CSV, or correction for reviewer approval. A contribution remains pending until reviewed and never publishes directly from a member's Inventory.
Product Catalog is reference data, not proof of ownership. When several records are plausible, compare the physical model number, barcode, road number, and packaging or use manual entry instead of forcing an uncertain link.
